External Collaboration Management System - The MITRE Corporation

MITRE systems pose a unique challenge when a team wants to invite users from outside of MITRE to collaborate on a project. Current systems do not allow MITRE users to easily invite an external person to projects tools such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, or other tools. The new External Collaboration Management System will allow project leaders to easily invite external collaborators to MITRE systems and manage that access through one interface. This new system also implements a friendly and simple web-based application for external users to view and access everything they have been invited to. Not only will this system support and grow collaboration, but it will also allow for easy tracking of business relationships and usage metrics

Work I delivered for this project

  • Plan and Conduct 8 user interviews with MITRE project leads to understand their needs for a new system

  • Design of hi-fidelity wireframes for external access page including: landing page, help text

  • Design of hi-fidelty wireframes for internal management application including: landing page, help text, table displays of project tools, table displays of invited users, form flow for sending invitations, form flow for creation of new project tools, error handling

  • Cross team collaboration between UX Team, Front End Development Team, Identity Management Team, and Backend Salesforce Team

Impact

Combined, these two new applications create a powerful system for collaboration management. Not only do they provide one access point for both internal and external users, but in doing so, they keep MITRE more secure by providing an easy way to keep access visible and current.
